I just added kanji #2042 of Remembering the Kanji 1 to Anki today.

‘Sign of the snake.’ Owned.

Feeling like a hotshot? You betcha.

Thankfulness…in Japanese.

27 11 2008

Today is Thanksgiving. I’m not sure what folks do in Japan, but here it’s traditional to think about what we’re thankful for.

I’m thankful for the Japanese language. I love kanji, the thousands of ideograms that mean so much to me. My favorite so far is:

‘fly’

I’m grateful to Khatzumoto, whose site, All Japanese All The Time, encouraged me to pursue my lifelong dream of learning the language. Other folks have come along like Paul and Igor through blogs. I also have some made some good friends through Mixi.

I’m thankful for you, the visitors that stop by.

WinNY or Share

26 11 2008

I set up WinNY on my computer last night, hoping to mine the vast resources of the Japanese-speaking online. It was fairly easy; not quite as easy as Azureus or other Bittorrent clients, but not bad. I set it up myself, but just found a visual tutorial here today, through Danny Choo’s article.

Unfortunately, I really didn’t find much of interest. I’m thinking that I missed the party, and that most people have moved on to Share or Perfect Dark. I might try Share this weekend, but since it mentions that it requires 50kB/s upload speed, I might not be able to use it. I can’t take advantage of either one of those because of my abysmal upload speeds…I’m lucky if I get 12kB/s. aDSL is the pits for file sharing. :P

I decided to follow a bunch of Japanese-speaking people on Twitter today. If you’d like to follow me, here I am!

I Think I Want To Work For Honda

Because they know how to do business.

Or Toyota, because they do too.

edit: Or JAL:

Now if they can only do away with salarymen working themselves to death…
